acknowledging a DECADE since my diagnosis by jumping (out of a plane) for a cure
hi!!!!! I'm tait 👩🏼🦰
🩺 at 13, I became the first kid at my school in regional Victoria to be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D). A decade on, I'm now a postgrad in women's health research and a forever advocate for understanding a complex, chronic condition that affects every aspect of life.
⚖️ my diagnosis shifted the trajectory of my life in the most contradictory way. Bringing both my darkest moments and greatest triumphs. A constant balancing act that requires endless amounts of self-discipline and empathy.
younger, naive me wanted sympathy.
older, empowered me wants understanding.
💉 beyond the needles, site infections, the 24/7 fight, other chronic health issues, ruining of fake tan and weird looks, is the strength it takes to forgive yourself and to keep advocating so that one day, this won't be anyone's reality.
✈️ so, in honour of the extraordinary support from my family, friends, colleagues and healthcare team, and the resilience I've gained through lived experience, I'm JUMPING OUT OF A PLANE to raise money for Breakthrough T1D.
