Road to Research

Road to Research is a bold 1,200km bike ride from the sacred pilgrimage site of Lourdes, in France, to the iconic Lords Cricket Ground, in London. The heartfelt journey was sparked during a chance meeting in 2024 between Mark Mason and Lord Ian Botham where they forged a bond over a common ambition –
to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

From that conversation, the Road to Research was born.

I'm joining Mark and James, two seemingly ordinary dads from the small rural town of Allora, in Qld, and Cameron Collard, to undertake this extraordinary (and some may say, slightly crazy) challenge with a clear and unwavering purpose: to shine a global spotlight on the devastating impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and raise money for the incredible work being undertaken by Breakthrough T1D Australia. By pushing boundaries of what seems possible, Mark and James hope to inspire others, connect communities across continents and one day help create a world where their children can say "I used to have T1D".

Lord Botham and Sir Bradley Wiggins (a former winner of the Tour de France) will be joining our Australian riders when they arrive in the UK for the journey into Lord's Cricket Ground.
