One Run

OneRun Day 1

I have type 1 Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia💙🧡💜My aim for OneRun is to eventually be able to run 5km. Today's goal was 3.5km and even though I couldn't run the whole thing, I power walked or jogged and managed to do 3.66km in under 40mins. It was pouring rain today, which made it difficult to navigate the terrain outside, so please also excuse my photo giving drowned rat energy🐀☔ My sugars started to trend up during my run although about 30 mins before my run I had 8g carbs because I was 4.3 and I knew that was not safe to run at↘️🍭🍬. I'm currently 11.8 and rising 📈but that's okay, I am learning how to manage my sugars around interval style running right now! I'm also currently writing and trying to finish my research paper on islet cell transplantation and the complications of T1D, so I only got the chance to run this evening. I know, I've got a long way to go but I'm excited I hit these small goals today!☺️ Thanks to @breakthrought1dau @samrooney_ep @emilysdiabetes for your support through this 8 week program! 1 day down 55 to go!!!

If you would like to support me, you can share↪️ my posts on insta or fb or donate any amount you can even $10 makes a difference . I'm aiming to fundraise at least $1000 for @breakthrought1dau to support research and insulin pump subsidies for all people living with T1D💙

I'm challenging myself with an 8-week program to run 5k, while supporting type 1 diabetes research!

I have lived with Type 1 diabetes for 22 years. The day I was diagnosed at age 9 completely changed the trajectory of my life. While diagnosis was hard to deal with at times, it created a purpose in my life and I 100% believe that I am a better person now for having type 1 diabetes.

I'm taking on an 8-week running program to help turn type 1 into type none - and smash 5K! I have Type 1 diabetes, it does not have me! I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, It does not have me! I have Fibromyalgia, IT DOES NOT HAVE ME!!! I haven't run in a long time, and with my conditions I don't know how far I can go, regardless nothing can stop me from trying my hardest!!!

I’m fundraising for BreakthroughT1D to defeat T1D! So no one else has to go through this, I'm asking for your support to help raise funds for research to cure, prevent and better treat type 1 diabetes.

As a T1D researcher, I'm in a unique position to know just how underfunded research in type 1 is and how far these funds could go towards research.

Breakthrough T1D Australia  has done a lot for me and people like me, they subsidised my first ever insulin pump when I was 17, this life saving technology made my life so much easier and helped me bring much tighter control to my sugars and thereby allowing me to live a near-normal life, this was all possible via donations to JDRF.

Type 1 diabetes can strike anyone at any time, and 7 Australians are diagnosed every day. Diagnosis means a 24/7 fight with no break and facing an extra 180 decisions a day to remain safe and healthy.

Please support my run today to help the #BreakthroughT1DBlueArmy and change the lives of Australians living with T1D. Thank you.
